Uganda’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, has retained his Adjumani West Constituency parliamentary seat in the run-up to the 2026 general elections, according to results reported in January 2026.
The 86-year-old veteran politician won the seat with 12,854 votes, defeating Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Patrick Tandrupasi, who garnered 11,770 votes. National Unity Platform (NUP) contender Stephen Lyo received 293 votes, while independent candidate Gasper Draga secured 522 votes.
Ali’s victory comes amid continued public debate over his health, following a widely publicised incident in 2025 in which he was nominated to contest the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries while seated inside his car, having reportedly been unable to walk or stand.
Despite concerns over his frailty, Ali has remained a key ally of President Yoweri Museveni and a dominant political figure in Adjumani West.
Gen. Moses Ali has served in Ugandan politics for more than five decades and has been a Member of Parliament since 1986, making him one of the country’s longest-serving legislators.
His latest win extends his long-standing political career as Uganda heads toward the 2026 general elections.
