Police in Mutuati Sub-County are investigating a tragic drowning incident after two men were retrieved from a pit believed to have been used for gold mining.
Bodies Retrieved from Pit
According to authorities, the Meru County Government Emergency Response Services team based in Maua responded to the scene and arrived at around 5 p.m. on April 11.
The team successfully retrieved the two bodies from the water-filled pit.
Victims Identified
The deceased were identified as Jackson Murithi, 28, who was found wearing a yellow short, and Henry Maore, 69, who was dressed in a black long trouser.
Scene Processed
Police documented and processed the scene before moving the bodies to Nyambene Hospital Mortuary.
The bodies are being preserved pending post-mortem examinations.
Investigations Ongoing
Authorities have launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the victims were involved in gold mining activities at the site.
