A 65-year-old watchman has died after being brutally attacked by unknown assailants at Kitini Market in Matungulu Sub-county.

Victim Found Unconscious

Police said the incident was reported on April 11, 2026, after the victim was discovered lying unconscious at the market.

The deceased was identified as Oliver Wambua Nzuki, who had been working as a night guard protecting about 13 shops in the area.

Suspected Break-In Attempt

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers had attempted to break into a bar within Kitini Market but were unsuccessful.

Authorities believe the watchman may have confronted the suspects, leading to a violent assault.

Severe Injuries Sustained

Nzuki sustained serious injuries, including deep cuts to the back of his head and facial wounds around the mouth.

He was rushed to Kangundo Level IV Hospital for treatment.

Succumbed in Hospital

Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Investigations Underway

Police have launched investigations to identify and apprehend the attackers.

The incident has raised concerns over security in local markets and the safety of night guards working to protect businesses.
