Police in Eldas have launched investigations into the death of an unidentified elderly man whose body was discovered inside a locked hotel room.
According to police, the incident was reported on Monday morning at Qumiley Hotel after the hotel owner noticed that one of the rooms had not been cleaned as scheduled.
The hotel owner reportedly attempted to access the room but found it locked from the inside. After repeated knocks went unanswered, police were alerted.
Preliminary investigations established that the room had been booked on Sunday at around noon by a man believed to be approximately 70 years old.
Police said the man appeared weak and unwell during check-in. He reportedly paid for the room in cash, and no personal identification details were recorded.
Officers later broke into the room after confirming it had remained locked from the inside.
Inside, they discovered the lifeless body of an elderly African man lying naked on the bed, with blood reportedly oozing from his mouth.
Authorities also recovered a mobile phone from the scene as part of the investigation.
Crime scene officers processed the room before the body was moved to Wajir Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police said efforts to identify the deceased and trace his relatives are ongoing.
