A 17-year-old Form Three student at Chemalal Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School is fighting for her life after she was allegedly stabbed by her suspected lover during a Christian Union (CU) session.
The shocking incident occurred in Bomet County, sparking concern among parents, students, and education stakeholders.
Suspect Allegedly Stormed CU Session Armed With Knife
According to police, the suspect, a 23-year-old day scholar, allegedly stormed the ongoing CU gathering inside the school compound armed with a kitchen knife.
Authorities say he attacked the student, inflicting serious injuries near her chest and left arm.
Public Responded After Hearing Screams
Area Police Commander Mohammed Godana confirmed the incident, stating that members of the public rushed to the scene after hearing screams from the school.
“The suspect is over age and is believed to have been having an affair with the victim. He was armed with a knife when he attacked the victim during a CU session but was unlucky as members of the public who heard the screams from the school rushed to the scene and subjected the suspect to mob justice before he was handed over to police,” Godana said.
Victim Receiving Treatment
The student was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains under medical care.
Police have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the attack and determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
Suspect to Be Arraigned
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody and is being processed for arraignment.
The incident has renewed concerns over student safety, toxic relationships, and violence involving young people in schools.
