Operations at Wilson Airport were temporarily suspended on Friday evening after a Dornier 228-202 aircraft crash-landed while arriving at the airport before stalling on the runway.
No Casualties Reported
Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported following the incident.
However, the exact number of passengers and crew members who were onboard the aircraft at the time of the crash had not been immediately established.
Aircraft Linked to UN Humanitarian Operations
Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft, bearing registration number 5Y-CES, is leased and operated by the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS).
The aircraft is reportedly used to provide critical humanitarian transport services across East Africa.
Investigations Expected
Airport authorities and aviation officials are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash-landing and establish what may have caused the aircraft to stall on the runway.
The temporary closure of Wilson Airport caused brief disruptions to flights operating in and out of the busy Nairobi-based airport.
Wilson Airport’s Role in Regional Aviation
Wilson Airport is one of Kenya’s busiest domestic and regional airports, serving humanitarian agencies, charter operators, tourism flights, and domestic travel routes across East Africa.
