Police in Nandi County are investigating a tragic murder incident after the body of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy was discovered dumped in a trench and covered with banana leaves in Koiban West Village, Nandi North Subcounty.

According to police reports, the body of the child, aged one year and six months, was found within the compound of a local resident identified as Joseph Maiyo.

Investigators said the child’s 17-year-old mother had reportedly returned home on May 6 after allegedly being away for about three years and had come back with her son.

Police stated that the teenager later disappeared on May 8 while in the company of the child, prompting concern among family members before the minor’s body was eventually discovered.

Authorities noted that the child’s body had visible bruises on the face.

Crime scene investigators later processed and documented the area before the body was moved to Kimbilio Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police confirmed that a suspect has since been arrested as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death continue.
