Residents of Riamute Village in the Bung’e area of Githunguri are struggling to come to terms with a tragic family incident in which a man allegedly killed his wife and child before taking his own life.

According to preliminary reports, the man, who worked as a motorcycle taxi operator, is suspected of attacking his wife and their child during the night before later being found dead after an apparent suicide.

The incident has left the local community in shock, with neighbours and relatives describing it as one of the most disturbing family tragedies witnessed in the area in recent years.

Investigators say the suspect is believed to have left behind a note, which has since been recovered and is being examined as part of ongoing investigations into the circumstances that led to the deaths.

Police officers who visited the scene launched inquiries to establish the sequence of events and determine what may have motivated the tragic incident.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to a mortuary pending post-mortem examinations and further investigations.

The tragedy has reignited conversations about mental health, family pressures and emotional distress, with residents expressing concern over what they describe as a growing number of cases involving individuals struggling with personal and domestic challenges.

Authorities have urged members of the public facing emotional or psychological difficulties to seek support from family members, community leaders, healthcare professionals and other available support systems before situations escalate into tragedy.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
