Police in Murang’a County have launched investigations into the disappearance of a 16-year-old student who went missing hours after she was expelled from school over alleged disciplinary issues.

The missing teenager, identified as Yvonne Wanjiru, is a Grade 10 student at St. Charles Lwanga High School.

According to police, Yvonne reported back to school from the midterm break on June 30. However, by 8 a.m. the following day, she had reportedly been expelled after allegedly wearing a miniskirt and dyeing her hair.

She has not been seen since.

Her disappearance was reported at Kandara Police Station and recorded in the Occurrence Book under reference OB 04/02/07/2026.

Murang’a County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said preliminary investigations indicate that the school contacted Yvonne’s mother, Monica Wakahiu, at about 8:30 a.m. on July 1 to inform her that her daughter was being expelled.

Police have since launched a search for the teenager and are appealing to members of the public with any information regarding her whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or contact investigators at Kandara Police Station.

Authorities say investigations into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are ongoing.
