The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced visa-on-arrival services for selected Kenyan passport holders and their eligible family members, easing travel requirements for Kenyans who meet specific conditions.
The new facility applies to Kenyan ordinary passport holders who hold valid visas, residence permits or Green Cards issued by the United States, European Union member states or the United Kingdom.
It also covers Kenyan travellers with valid residence permits issued by Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Singapore or New Zealand.
Eligible travellers can obtain either a 14-day or 60-day UAE visa upon arrival.
The 14-day visa costs AED100, equivalent to approximately KSh3,500, while the 60-day visa costs AED250, or about KSh9,000.
Applicants using the UAE’s smart services portal will also be required to pay an additional AED150, approximately KSh5,000, electronic service fee.
Travellers must have an ordinary Kenyan passport valid for at least six months at the time of travel and must present the qualifying visa or residence permit.
The 14-day visa can be extended once for another 14 days, while the 60-day visa is not extendable.
Eligible Kenyans can apply through the UAE smart services portal or obtain the visa upon arrival at an airport in the UAE.
The move is expected to make travel to the UAE easier for Kenyan professionals, families and other travellers who already hold qualifying immigration documents from the listed countries and regions.
