Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale’s brother in law Dekow Barow Mohammed has won the Garissa Township parliamentary by-election on a UDA ticket.
The retired major garnered 11,572 votes while his closest competitor Nassir Dolal Mohamed alias Jofle of UDM got 8,158 votes.
Other candidates who contested for the seat which fell vacant following the nomination of Duale to the cabinet include Abdikhaim Osman Mohamed of DP, Ibrahim Nur Malow Shurie (Narc_Kenya), Abdifaisal Amin (ODM) and Muhiadin Ahmed Abdirashid (DAP_Kenya).
Dekow had contested the Garissa governor seat on UDA ticket in the August 9 election but came a distant third behind Ali Korane of Jubilee Party and Nathif Jama (ODM) who won the race with 69,342 votes.
