Police in Rumuruti are using a mobile phone dropped by gang after robbing a supermarket to trace them.
The gang of three who were armed with one pistol raided a supermarket at Mutanga shopping centre and managed to steal Sh20,000 from the till.
Witnesses said that the thugs who struck at 8pm on Wednesday night barricaded the entrance and shot into the air twice while demanding cash.
Police on patrol responded there and shot at the gang but they managed to escape on foot.
It was in the process that one of the suspects dropped his mobile phone while escaping.
The gadget is currently being analysed in order to identify the owner as a part of efforts to trace the gang, police said
