A Land Registrar based at the Ngong Land Registry was Monday arrested by anti-graft agency detectives for allegedly demanding a Sh2.5 million bribe from a member of the public in order to process their title deed.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said Charles Mwendwa Mutua was arrested on Monday by police from Kilimani police station while receiving Sh900,000 which was a bargain from the aforesaid bribe.
Mutua’s arrest comes after a series of investigations were conducted following a complaint presented to the commission claiming that Mutua, jointly working with his boss is notorious for demanding huge bribes for title deeds to be processed.
“On 7th December 2022, the Commission received a report from a member of the public who alleged that both Caroline Simuli Kituyi and Charles Mwendwa Mutua based at Ngong Land Registry were demanding a bribe from him in order to process the Title Deeds of his land,” said the commission.
EACC established that the accusations were indeed true prompting detectives to make the arrest.
The commission ordered Kituyu to present herself to Integrity Centre Police Station for processing.
Meanwhile, the commission detectives arrested one Jack Bigambo, an Advocate of the High Court y in Westlands as Bigambo and Bigambo Advocates Co. who forged the official stamp and signature of an EACC Lawyer on his court documents and used the same to fraudulently secure Court Orders against EACC.
He was expected to be presented before Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to face criminal charges on Tuesday.
