Two people died after a car they were making merry in plunged into a dam at Titanic Area in Juja, Kiambu County.

Locals say they heard a woman screaming at about 7:30 pm shouting for help.

“I heard a woman screaming, she was in the dam trying to swim, trying to save herself but unfortunately there were no divers around. After the car plunged into the dam the woman managed to get out of the vehicle through the windows,” Lucy Muthoni, a resident of the area, told Citizen Digital.

“They park and chill around here every day but during the weekends you cannot even find a parking spot here, they flock here, drinking and enjoying themselves here. This is not the first case,” one of the locals Brian Njoroge said.

Murera Ward MCA Moses Ngatha Wabiri said he will move a motion in the County Assembly of Kiambu, to make it compulsory for the county government to fence all the dams in Kiambu County to prevent such incidences from happening in the future.

“This is not the first time people are dying in this dam, we need to do something. We will make the county assembly set aside funds to fence these dams,” Wabiri said.

The body of the woman was retrieved last night while that of the man who was found naked was retrieved this morning and taken to General Kago morgue in Thika.

The Nissan X-trail car has since been retrieved from the dam.
