Police in Embu are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a 77-year-old woman who was lynched by an irate mob after she was found burning underwear outside her neighbour’s house.
Alice Kiguna was last night accosted by her neighbours outside her neighbour Daniel Mwaniki’s gate at Gatumbi market in Runyenjes at 3 am and beaten to death. Police say they were called this morning to collect the body of the deceased which had been dumped at a roadside today morning.
According to neighbours the deceased and Mwaniki had a boundary dispute. Mwaniki who was woken up by the chaos outside his house rushed to the Runyenjes Police station to report the matter. However, by the time he came back, the woman had already been killed
Embu East Police Commander Emmanuel Okanda has however called on the locals to find an amicable way of solving such disputes instead of taking matters into their own hands.
