KTN’s news anchor Zubeidah Kananu has been elected as the president of the Kenya Editors Guild. Zubeidah won with 72 votes against her competitor Sammy Muraya from Journalists for Human Rights who garnered 36 votes in election conducted today.
Kananu will take over from Churchill Otieno who has completed his three year term.
“I am very happy and I lack words to express myself. When I joined, EG Churchill held my hand, he brought us together as colleagues. I make a commitment to serve you all and I promise not to let you down,” Kananu said.
She thanked everyone for believing in her saying there is so much going on in the media industry that needs to be handled.
Ruth Nesoba from the BBC has been elected as the vice president. She garnered 73 votes against her competitor James Ng’ang’a Mbugua from People Daily who garnered 35.
The editors also elected unopposed Radio Africa Group digital Editor Francis Mureithi as the council member of Online while Standard Media Group’s Linda Bach was retained as the Council Member of Print.
