Since announcing their new policies, Netflix has faced intense criticism from users who seek to share their passwords and accounts.
According to a statement Netflix published, “We will be sending this email to users who are sharing Netflix outside their household in the United Kingdom starting today.
A Netflix account is “for use by one family,” according to the streaming giant, and anyone who wants to share theirs must spend £4.99 to do so.
“That’s why we continue to heavily invest in a wide variety of new films and TV shows – so whatever your taste, mood, or language, and whoever you’re watching with, there’s always something pleasurable to watch on Netflix,” they wrote.
Following the disclosure of the account-sharing charge, Netflix has encountered opposition. Upset clients vented their dissatisfaction with the newly adopted rules on social media. One person tweeted, “Netflix is over,” while another responded, “I think I speak for everyone when I say we WILL be cancelling.”
The information is not unexpected. The password tightening that Netflix implemented in February made it hard to utilize one account across many devices.
Last year, the dominant streaming company forewarned of an update that would stop users from exchanging passwords across several devices. The new system’s workings were disclosed on its website, although the streaming juggernaut acknowledged that some of these were disclosed accidentally as a result of the social media controversy over the intended plans.
A help center item that was solely pertinent to Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru briefly went live in other nations, according to Netflix, who said of the incident. “Since then, we updated it.”
