Veteran journalist Munene Kamau is dead. He breathed his last while receiving treatment at Fortes Hospital in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County.
He was 70.
“We have lost our father who has been sick since March this year,” Kamau’s son Michael Bundi said while announcing his death.
“We have been thrown into mourning after our father’s death. Our father loved us so much and we will miss him,” said Bundi.
You loved your job and you were a powerhouse. Then the way you taught us how to write intros, stories and exclusives. You scripted us into history by telling us your story. The pen never stops writing…you handed it over to many of us.”
Dennis Itumbi, ICT Chief Administrative Secretary
Kamau, who largely covered the Mt Kenya region, retired last year from the Standard Group where he worked for many years.
He started his career in 1984 at the Kenya News Agency (KNA). He joined the Standard Media Group in 1988.
While eulogising Kamau, ICT Chief Administrative Secretary Dennis Itumbi – who was one of his proteges – described the veteran journalist as a great mentor.
“You loved your job and you were a powerhouse. Then the way you taught us how to write intros, stories and exclusives,” said Itumbi.
“You scripted us into history by telling us your story. The pen never stops writing…you handed it over to many of us,” he said.
Kamau’s family members are meeting in Ithareini village, Kirinyaga County, to make funeral arrangements.
