Investigating officers have revealed that the late former Treasury official, Tom Osinde, may have been drugged and killed at his Nakuru home. His body was then transported to Migori and dumped in River Kuja.
A police source close to the investigation revealed this detail but requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.
According to the source, Osinde was killed on the same day he was reported missing, which was June 18, 2023. Police suspect that he may have been stabbed with a knife and struck with a blunt object. His body was found floating in River Kuja on June 22, five days after his disappearance.
At the time the body was retrieved, it was unidentified. It was then taken to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary, where it was recorded as a ‘John Doe.’
On Wednesday night, a family member accompanied by a police officer positively identified the body as belonging to Tom Osinde. The police source also mentioned that the body displayed visible injuries consistent with being struck by a blunt object.
Additionally, Osinde’s vehicle, which was discovered on Saturday, had traces of blood inside. The vehicle which had been vandalized was discovered in Kilgoris.

The body of Tom Osinde was transferred from the Migori facility to the Kisii Level Five Hospital mortuary on Thursday, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the death of the former Treasury officer and are currently assisting the police with their investigations.
The main suspects, Julius Mogoi and Mugo Gathi, are in police custody. They will be detained for 21 days after the police asked for more time to conclude their investigations.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are intensifying their efforts to uncover the motive behind Tom Osinde’s murder.
