Interior Ministry selects 30 administrators to speed up workflow

The government has launched training for senior administrators on the organization and functions of government, security and safety for citizens and also public participation, engagement, and communication.

Internal security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo yesterday launched the training for 30 days for Deputy County Commissioners who were selected on merit, will also be trained on other cross-cutting issues, key among them climate change and employee wellness and psychosocial support.

The government is also implementing a series of strategies to combat corruption, including strengthening investigating agencies and leveraging the support of NGAOs stationed across the country.

After the training, the administrators will be deployed to cascade the radical shift in mindset to all the ranks within the National Government Administrative Officers’ (NGAOs) structure.

“Being the government’s first point of contact with the grassroots, this department plays a pivotal role in transforming service delivery and maximizing the impact of our targeted investments,” PS Omollo said.

The plan encompasses an array of transformative programmes and interventions designed to elevate every section of the society, with citizens and communities at the lowest level of the social ladder acknowledged in the efforts to revolutionize the country’s landscape of opportunity.

“Our ultimate objective is to ensure that every interaction our administrators have with mwananchi is marked by empathy and a genuine understanding of their unique needs and concerns,” PS Omollo said.

The PS added the government is progressively accelerating the implementation of its visionary blueprint on socio-economic empowerment and inclusive prosperity under the Bottom- Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“In light of the above, we have set about cementing the position of the NGAO as the driving force behind these strategic interventions and forge an environment where every single mwananchi will not only thrive but also contribute meaningfully to our collective prosperity,” he said.

PS Omollo added they had purposed to conduct the reorientation programme for these officers with the intent to infuse a lead-by-example mindset across the structure and ensure effective, efficient and responsive services at all levels.

“The motivation for this programme is grounded on the fact that the everchanging times call for renewed ways of doing things. In this regard, that which worked yesterday may not always work today or even tomorrow,” he added.

To kickstart the process, the PS yesterday launched the training for 30 days of Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) at the Kenya School of Government.

PS Omollo had earlier also said the government had resolved to change tack in tackling insecurity, corruption, and other vices which he says has derailed development in the country.

“As the chairs of the respective Security and Intelligence Committees in their jurisdictions, these officers have progressively cascaded the all-of-government approach to security and law enforcement,” Dr Omollo said.

The PS also noted that through the help of NGAOs, the Government has managed to recover over 100 firearms from civilians.

There are also plans for infrastructure upgrade, training and provision of mobility and logistical support through the Government Vehicle Leasing Program.

Plans are also underway to operationalize the 28 newly gazetted sub-counties in response to the increasing demand for further decentralization of government services.
