Manchester United‘s Antony is set to make a return to the squad after voluntarily attending a police interview in Cheshire regarding allegations of assault made by a former girlfriend.

The 23-year-old footballer, who has consistently denied the accusations, cooperated with Greater Manchester Police on Thursday, and he has neither been arrested nor charged in the UK or Brazil as the investigation continues.

Antony had taken a leave of absence from the team on September 10 to address the allegations, causing him to miss United’s last four matches against Brighton, Bayern Munich, Burnley, and Crystal Palace.

United sources confirm that they will monitor the situation closely while police inquiries progress. The club released a statement, stating, “Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.”

Antony will not be eligible for selection in the Premier League match against Palace on Saturday but may return for the Champions League clash with Galatasaray on Tuesday or the home league fixture against Brentford the following Saturday.

Antony has cooperated fully with authorities in both Brazil and the UK, providing evidence to support his denials of the allegations. He left the police station after the interview with no imposed restrictions by GMP.

United believes it’s appropriate for Antony to be available for selection as he hasn’t faced arrest, detention, or charges.

The allegations against Antony were submitted by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, who accused him of “physical and psychological violence.” She reported two incidents of alleged assault in Manchester. Antony responded to the accusations in June and September, consistently denying any physical aggression and expressing his willingness to cooperate with authorities.

Since Ms. Cavallin came forward, two other women have also alleged abuse by Antony, which he has vehemently denied.
