Thousands of football fans thronged Rusinga Island in Homa Bay Couty to witness the final rights of Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars super fan Collins Kwala popularly known as Collo Kwala.
Kwala who is said to have never missed a single Gor Mahia match in the last decade met his death after a car he was driving was involved in an accident at Londiani in Kericho County two weeks ago. He has left behind a daughter.
His body arrived in Kisumu yesterday aboard a Kenya Airways flight ahead of the burial which is taking place today in Rusinga.
Many people have euologised Kwala as one of the most religious football fans in Kenya of our time.
Armed with his videography equipment, Kwala was ever-present in almost all Gor matches whether in Kenya or abroad. He was also an ardent Harambee Stars supporter.
Additionally, he was also a very resourceful mobiliser and a people person. He briefly flirted with politics last year when he contested the ODM primaries as he sought the party ticket for Umoja II Ward ahead of the General Election.
Although he was unsuccessful in his quest, he graciously conceded defeat but remained loyal to ODM.
