In a daring and audacious move on Tuesday, October 24, cattle rustlers targeted and attacked a General Service Unit (GSU) camp located in Kapindasum, Baringo County.
The incident, which unfolded around 10 a.m., resulted in a prolonged shootout that lasted for over two intense hours.
Baringo County police officials confirmed the attack.
Preliminary reports suggested that the bandits had encircled the nearby Kapindasum Primary School.
“At around 10 am, bandits attacked the GSU camp in Kapindasum. There are reports that the incident may have also involved a school. When I talked to the teacher, I was told they were afraid.
“They are reported to have surrounded the school and the gunshots can be heard,” it was reported.
Six counties in the North Rift have an active ongoing security operation to flush out the bandits. The operation is targeting Turkana, Samburu, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, and Laikipia counties.
The bandits have been accused of inter-communal cattle rustling that has resulted in the death of many people.
Schools and health facilities in some of these areas have even been closed due to banditry.
