Eden Hazard, the renowned Belgian footballer and former Chelsea legend, has officially declared his retirement from professional football at the age of 32.
Despite an illustrious career, which included a high-profile transfer to Real Madrid for a staggering sum of up to £150 million just four years ago, his time in LaLiga was marred by persistent injuries.
Hazard took to Instagram to share the news, writing, “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.”
“After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer. I was able to realize my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world,” the player added.

During his career, Hazard had the privilege of working with exceptional managers, coaches, and teammates. He further went on to express his gratitude to everyone who contributed to his journey.
Hazard also extended his thanks to the clubs he represented. These include LOSC, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, as well as the RBFA for his Belgian national team selection.
Hazard acknowledged the importance of his family, friends, and those who stood by him through both good and bad times. He concluded his message with a heartfelt appreciation for his fans, who supported him throughout his career.
Career achievements
In his relatively short stint with Real Madrid, Hazard made just 76 appearances and scored seven goals. His 2022-23 season was particularly challenging, as he managed to play in only 10 matches.
These statistics, however, fail to capture the full scope of his career achievements, especially during his time with Chelsea.
Hazard, who joined Chelsea in 2012, became one of the club’s all-time greats. He scored an impressive 110 goals in 352 matches for the Blues between 2012 and 2019, playing pivotal roles in securing two Premier League titles.

His contributions to Chelsea’s success extended beyond the Premier League. Hazard also helped the team win the FA Cup, League Cup, and two Europa League titles. In recognition of his outstanding performances, Hazard was honored with the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards in 2015.
On the international stage, Hazard earned 126 caps for Belgium. This makes him one of the most capped players in the country’s history. He retires as the second-highest goal scorer in the Belgian national team’s history.
As he embarks on the next chapter of his life, Eden Hazard leaves behind a lasting legacy in the world of football, with fond memories etched in the hearts of fans and a career that will be remembered for generations to come.
