Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is advocating for increased resources and positions for the Mt. Kenya region within the Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking during a burial event in Meru County, he emphasized the idea that the government is a “shareholding entity” and should prioritize those who supported it.
Gachagua stated, “We will make sure we increase our shareholding in this government from 47 per cent to almost 60 per cent.
Many people are uncomfortable about our shareholding; ni kidogo, it’s only 47…tutaongeza ikuwe mingi zaidi” (It’s a little, we will increase it to be more).
His comments appear to be a response to President William Ruto, who recently stated that Kenya is not a limited shareholding entity and that all Kenyans are equal.
Gachagua is also continuing his efforts to unite the Mt. Kenya region, emphasizing that other regions are pursuing their interests as well.
He expressed his commitment to bringing the 13 per cent who voted for the opposition in the last General Election into President Ruto’s camp for the 2027 elections.
He emphasized the unity of the Mt. Kenya region and its support for President Ruto’s administration, stating, “We have no apologies to make in investing in President Ruto.
We are happy with what is going on so farand we have every intention to increase our support for him.”
It’s worth noting that Gachagua has hinted at mending fences with former President Uhuru Kenyatta as part of his efforts to unify the Mt. Kenya region.
