Meta-owned WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature that allows users to simultaneously log in to two different WhatsApp accounts on a single device. This development was confirmed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in an announcement.
The functionality, which is set to make life easier for countless users, eliminates the need to log out of one account to access another, sparing users from the inconvenience of managing multiple devices or risking messages going to the wrong place. This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals who use WhatsApp for both personal and professional communication.
For Android users, the two-account feature will be progressively rolled out in the upcoming weeks and months. To activate the second account, you will require a separate phone number and SIM card or a phone compatible with multi-SIM or eSIM technology. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set up a second account:
- Launch WhatsApp.
- Tap the Settings icon located at the bottom right.
- Select the arrow adjacent to your name.
- Tap “Add account.”
- Follow the prompts to add your secondary account.
Following these steps, you will have successfully logged in to a second WhatsApp account. To switch between the two accounts, you can simply navigate to your WhatsApp settings, click on the arrow next to your name, and choose “Add account.”
Notably, each account allows for independent control of privacy and notification settings. WhatsApp emphasizes the importance of using only the official app and avoiding imitation or counterfeit versions, as the security and privacy of your messages are guaranteed only with the authentic WhatsApp application.
Additionally, WhatsApp recently announced its plans to introduce a password-less passkey feature for all Android users, eliminating the need for two-factor SMS authentication. This enhanced security feature will enable Android users to securely access their WhatsApp accounts using their device’s authentication methods, such as facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, or PIN, ensuring both security and convenience.
The rollout of passkeys for Android users will be conducted gradually over the coming weeks and months, marking another significant improvement in the WhatsApp experience.
