A Nairobi-bound flight originating from France found itself re-routed just two hours after departing from the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. The incident, which occurred on Monday, was attributed to mechanical problems with the aircraft’s icing system.
Aviation news sources quickly spread the word about this mid-flight development, highlighting the importance of the plane’s icing system. Passengers were promptly informed of the situation and the decision to reroute the flight back to France.
The flight had originally been scheduled to depart from the Charles de Gaulle Airport at 12:15 p.m. It was anticipated to arrive in Kenya at 9:55 p.m.
However, it was reported that the aircraft had to dump fuel before returning to France. This is a necessary precaution when excess fuel is carried.
Upon touching down at the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, further delays ensued as the airline’s technical team worked diligently to address the mechanical issues.
“Unfortunately, your flight AF814 from Paris (CDG) to Nairobi (NBO) on 16.10.2023 has been delayed. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. KLM will keep you informed of any updates,” a statement from the Air France read in part.
Thankfully, no passengers were injured during this incident, providing some relief amid the travel disruption.
Following the necessary rescheduling and repairs, the flight was expected to arrive at its intended destination, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), on Tuesday at 4:15 a.m.
This incident occurred just days after a UK military jet intercepted a plane en route to London Heathrow, diverting it to London Stansted Airport due to security concerns. Fortunately, no serious issues were found on the intercepted plane.
