Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s campaign to unite the Mt. Kenya region received a significant boost as over 50 elected leaders from the area voiced their support.
During the closing ceremony of the Mt. Kenya Golf Festival held at the Nyeri Golf Club on Saturday, these leaders pledged to collaborate with Gachagua for the economic growth and development of the region.
The event also saw the participation of business leaders, professionals, and politicians from the Mt. Kenya region, all of whom committed to standing firmly behind Deputy President Gachagua. A segment of the Jubilee Party’s members also graced the occasion.
Nyeri Town MP Maina Mathenge and Trade and Investments expert Daniel Wamahiu expressed their joy at Gachagua’s presence and encouraged him to continue the legacy of former President Mwai Kibaki, who patronized the club and played golf for four decades.
The leaders emphasized the need for unity in advancing the region’s political and economic interests, particularly addressing issues like unemployment, while also pledging their support for President Ruto’s government.
EALA MP Kanini Kega stated, “We are coming together as Mt. Kenya leaders behind the Deputy President to address our political and economic interests such as unemployment.”
Deputy President Gachagua stressed the importance of national unity during a non-election period, emphasizing his commitment to uniting the Mt. Kenya region for its growth and development.
He expressed his and President William Ruto’s desire for all Kenyans to work together for the country’s development beyond the electoral arena.
Over 50 MPs from the Mt. Kenya region affirmed their loyalty to the President and his deputy, emphasizing the region’s eagerness for development and unity.
Notable leaders present at the event included Governors Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Joshua Irungu (Laikipia), Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a), Nyeri Deputy Governor David Kinaniri, and several Senators.
During the golf tournament, Deputy President Gachagua called upon the business community to collaborate with the government to pursue a common purpose and build a better country.
Gachagua’s efforts to unite the Mt. Kenya region have also garnered support from the Kikuyu Council of Elders and the Akurino Church, signifying a growing consensus on his role as a unifying figure in the region.
