The Kenya Rugby Union has officially announced the return of Africa’s premier sevens tournament, the Safari Sevens. The event is scheduled to take place at the RFUEA grounds in Nairobi from November 17th to 19th.
Chairman of the KRU, Alexander Mutai, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament, stating, “We are proud to be back!” Mutai emphasized that the Safari Sevens would bring together top African teams and international rugby powerhouses, promising an unforgettable showdown on the rugby field.
He also highlighted the strategic partnerships that have been established to restore the tournament to its former glory while maintaining the commitment to developing world-class rugby talent in Kenya.
This edition of the Safari Sevens follows Kenya’s qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics and will mark Shujaa’s second outing since the appointment of the new coaching staff led by head coach Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua.
Assistant coach Louis Kisia previously mentioned that they would build on their success in Harare, where they secured qualification for the Paris Games, in this second tournament.
Kisia expressed their aim to prepare both Shujaa and Morans for the Safari Sevens, with the goal of delivering strong performances under this new coaching team.
The Kenya Rugby Union is hopeful of attracting additional partners and sponsors as they prepare to host this premier competition, which was last held in Nairobi in 2019.
