The World Rally Championship (WRC) has officially revealed its eagerly anticipated calendar for the 2023/2024 season, featuring an array of exhilarating new destinations.
Among the notable changes in the schedule, the iconic Safari Rally returns to its traditional Easter holiday weekend slot, scheduled for 28-31 March 2024. This marks a departure from the past three editions, all held in June, and presents a tougher challenge to drivers as it coincides with the rainy season.
The 13-event calendar, endorsed during the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting on Thursday, kicks off in Monte Carlo in January and concludes in Japan in late November.
Phineas Kimathi, CEO of WRC Safari Rally, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “This is fantastic news and a Mashujaa Day celebration for Kenyans as we rekindle the spirit of the Safari rally journey from 70 years ago when millions of Kenyans eagerly awaited the Easter weekend to savor the excitement of the Safari rally.”
Tet Rally Latvia (18 – 21 July) makes its debut in the WRC, joining the elite level of the sport after impressing at the FIA European Rally Championship.
The action-packed calendar also includes Secto Rally Finland (1 – 4 August), EKO Acropolis Rally Greece (5 – 8 September), Rally Chile Bio Bío (26 – 29 September), Central European Rally (31 October – 3 November), and FORUM8 Rally Japan (21 – 24 November) to bring the 2024 season to a thrilling close.
