Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita, the Commandant Border Police Patrol Unit has died.
The senior police boss was found unconscious in his house and pronounced dead at Matuu Level 4 Hospital on Friday, December 15. According to a police report, Mwita fell suddenly unconscious at his home around midnight.
“Today the 15th December, 2023 at about midnight it was reported vide OB No. 2/15/12/202 that one Mr Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita, S/AIG aged 54 years who was the Commandant Border Police Patrol Unit suddenly fell unconscious in his rental house at Matuu Town. Officers proceeded to the scene and rushed him to Matuu Level 4 Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body has been moved to Umash Funeral Home pending autopsy,” the police report read in part.
He was the commandant of the Security of Government Buildings and VIP Protection Unit before he was transferred to the Rural Border Patrol Unit (RBPU).
Some of his achievements include helping reduce border crime, reducing the proliferation of arms and interdiction of tourism activities in the border regions.
He was also a champion in promoting President William Ruto’s greening agenda by spearheading several tree-planting exercises in the country.
