Former world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge is set to participate in the 2024 Tokyo Marathon.
The two-time Olympic champion is poised to return to the streets of the Japanese capital, following his impressive victory in the 2022 edition of the international multi-sport event. This marks a strategic move as he gears up for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Reflecting on his previous experiences in Japan, Kipchoge expressed his fondness for the country, stating, “I have good memories in Japan. I won my Olympic gold medal there and ran the course record in the Tokyo Marathon.”
He went on to express gratitude for the organization’s efforts in hosting the event amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the last Tokyo Marathon, Kipchoge had a specific goal in mind. “My aim was to set the course record, and it was great to achieve that. I feel good working towards my next race in Tokyo.
For me, it is the perfect preparation towards my goal of winning my third consecutive Olympic title next summer in Paris,” Kipchoge remarked, emphasizing the significance of the upcoming marathon in shaping his preparation for the prestigious event in France.
