In a heartbreaking turn of events, a boat carrying six individuals capsized in River Migori, Matanda, Migori County, leaving one person missing. The Kenya Red Cross has confirmed the incident, stating that five individuals have been successfully rescued.

The Kenya Red Cross has expressed gratitude for the swift response and assistance extended by the community in rescuing the five individuals. The organization, in collaboration with the County Government, has promptly deployed additional divers to intensify search and retrieval efforts for the missing person.

This incident adds to the toll of casualties resulting from the ongoing El Nino rains, with the death toll reaching 142 as of December 1. Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, in a statement, noted that the rainfall is expected to persist in the southern parts of the country, with a reduction in intensity and coverage in the northern regions.

Efforts are currently underway to locate the missing person. The Kenya Red Cross and the County Government are working tirelessly alongside the community to bring the missing person back safely and provide the necessary support to those affected by this tragedy.
