Nakuru, Kenya – One person is dead and three others are injured following a shooting incident at a local bar early Wednesday morning. Police Constable Nicholas Musau, stationed at the Nakuru Central police station, is alleged to have refused to pay a Ksh.16,000 bill at the Vegas Club, leading to a heated confrontation with barmaids.
The incident unfolded around 2 AM, with reports indicating that Musau became involved in a physical altercation with the staff over the unpaid bill. In the ensuing chaos, the officer allegedly drew his firearm and opened fire, fatally injuring barmaid Ann Maina before fleeing the scene.
Nakuru County police commander confirmed the incident and stated that Musau had been apprehended and detained at the Kaptebwa police station. Police recovered a pistol with two loaded rounds and six spent cartridges, serving as evidence for their investigation.
“The officer picked a quarrel with the barmaids at the said bar over bills for the drinks he had taken,” the police report stated. “In the process, a fracas ensued and the officer fatally injured the said barmaid namely Ann Maina.”
The shooting resulted in four victims, including two men and two women. The deceased, Ann Maina, was transported to a local mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. One woman was undergoing surgery at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, while the two men were reported to be in stable condition.
This incident raises serious concerns regarding police conduct and the use of excessive force. Investigations are ongoing, and it is expected that Constable Musau will face legal charges for his actions.
