President William Ruto’s Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir floundered at the bottom of TIFA’s recent performance report, earning a dismal 19%. This places him as the worst-performing Cabinet Secretary, with Gender CS Aisha Jumwa trailing close behind at 23%.

Fuel price hikes and persistent power outages plagued Chirchir’s tenure, prompting widespread public dissatisfaction and contributing to his poor rating. Three other CSs also struggled to impress, with Njuguna Ndung’u (National Treasury), Zachariah Njeru (Water), and Alice Wahome (Lands) scoring a mediocre 24%.

In stark contrast, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki emerged as the shining star, capturing a stellar 65% approval rating. Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi followed closely with 62%, while Ezekiel Machogu (Education), Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport), and Susan Nakhumincha (Health) rounded out the top five with scores ranging from 57% to 58%.

TIFA’s report further assessed communication effectiveness, highlighting the CSs’ ability to clearly and concisely convey information about their ministries’ activities.

This latest assessment raises questions about Chirchir’s suitability for the role and casts a shadow on his future in the Cabinet. With public disapproval mounting and a challenging energy landscape ahead, Chirchir faces an uphill battle to improve his performance and regain the trust of Kenyans.
