Citizen TV founder and billionaire SK Macharia has officially taken the oath as a member of the Murang’a County Budget and Council Forum.
The swearing-in ceremony, attended by Governor Irungu Kang’ata, was broadcast live on Thursday from the Kilimani-based TV station. In his new capacity, Macharia, alongside other members, will offer advice to the Governor on policies related to county budgeting and economic development.
Addressing the gathering, Kang’ata highlighted the role of the new members in enhancing the county’s appeal to investors, ultimately generating employment opportunities for the youth. “Let’s create an environment that attracts the best investors. This will increase employment for the youth, thus more taxes to be utilized for the benefit of this county,” Kang’ata stated.
The Governor emphasized his selection of accomplished individuals from academia, business, and the professional sphere to leverage their expertise. The names of the appointees were first gazetted in November of the previous year. Other notable figures included former Equity Chairman Peter Munga, businessman Jimnah Mbaru, Professor Olive Mugenda, and Ambassador Mary Muthoni.
However, no details were provided regarding their contracts, including terms of service and remuneration.
Established in 2015, the council’s primary purpose is to foster reconciliation and cohesion among leaders from the county.
Governor Kang’ata anticipates that the newly sworn-in leaders will provide valuable advice on areas where the county can lead investments, with a particular focus on the Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
