Two women were apprehended in Siaya County during a crackdown on illegal alcohol, drugs, and contraband items in Sirima village, Ugenya sub-county.

Police officers, acting on information, conducted a raid at the residence of Pamela Atieno, 50, seizing 60 liters of kangara.

Kangara is a traditional home-brewed spirit, popular in Kenya. It is made by fermentation and distillation from grains like millet, maize, and soghurm. It is also very potent.

Following this, they then proceeded to the home of Beryl Atieno, 24, where they discovered 17 liters of chang’aa, 16 rolls of bhang, 100 liters of kangara, and 16 uncustomed cigarette sticks.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the arrest of the two women. He further said that both women were taken into custody at Ukwala Police Station. They await legal proceedings after the government chemist conducts an analysis of the seized items.

Kimaiyo further emphasized the ongoing efforts to eliminate unlawful enterprises in the region, cautioning against the trade of illicit alcohol. He also urged the public to seek legal means of income, stressing that criminal activities yield no lasting benefits.
