The upcoming Samsung Unpacked event, scheduled for January 17, is poised to unveil the much-anticipated Galaxy S24 series.
Extensive leaks have already divulged details about the devices, encompassing both their internal specifications and external design. Following tradition, the Galaxy S24 series will consist of three variants. These are a standard model, a Plus edition, and a top-tier Ultra version, complete with advanced camera features.
Notably, Samsung’s official invitation boldly teases the introduction of new AI experiences. This aligns with recent trends in mobile processors, where chipmakers like Qualcomm and MediaTek have emphasized on-device generative AI capabilities.
These capabilities include text-to-image generation, summarization, multi-modal inputs, and intelligent pixel fill for images, among other features.
In a departure from convention, Samsung has already opened pre-orders for the Galaxy S24, even before the Unpacked event.
Enthusiasts who are enticed by the leaks and teasers can reserve a Galaxy S24 now. They will receive a $50 Samsung credit upon eventual purchase. Leaks have provided a comprehensive overview of the Galaxy S24 series. However there’s always room for surprises at the official launch. The following is a summary of the information available from credible sources on the internet
First looks
Commencing with the design, Samsung appears to have opted for a more conservative approach this year. Initial CAD-based renders of the Galaxy S24 trio surfaced a few months ago. In December, a Twitter user shared marketing-ready renders of the Galaxy S24, S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in various colors. The tweet was quickly deleted. However a brief glimpse indicated that the entry-level Galaxy S24 will share an identical design. It will draw substantial inspiration from the Galaxy S23 series.
At the heart of the design is a flat OLED screen. It features a centrally positioned punch-hole cutout along the top edge. The rear shell, crafted from glass, showcases a vertical floating lens array housing three camera sensors.
Sources say the Galaxy S24 trio will be available in Black, Grey, Violet, and Yellow shades. There will also be three additional shades; orange, light blue, and light green. I
n the case of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung has subtly flattened the phone’s side profile compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. The S Pen stylus makes a return appearance, but once again, Samsung has not color-matched it to the phone’s rear shell.
Samsung S24 specs
According to a recent article by MSN, Samsung is set to release the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra phones on January 17, 2024.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to be released in February 2024. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to have a 6.8-inch QHD+ 120Hz screen, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB/512GB/1TB of internal storage.
The phone is also expected to have a 200MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is also expected to have a 5,000 mAh battery with Super Fast Charging 2.0 and Fast Wireless Charging 2.0/Wireless PowerShare.
AI capabilities
As for AI capabilities, Samsung is expected to bring more generative AI-powered features to its next major phones . The company recently announced its own AI model, as well as Galaxy AI, a new AI “experience” for mobile devices, and it seems likely these technologies will play a big role in the Galaxy S24 .
Generative AI, or AI that can churn out conversational (but not always accurate) answers to prompts based on training data, was everywhere in the tech world in 2023. That applies to smartphones too, especially toward the end of the year, as Google unveiled the Pixel 8 series and Qualcomm and MediaTek introduced new phone chips optimized for AI.
However, the exact AI capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series are not yet known. We will have to wait for the official release of the phone to know more about its AI capabilities.
