Three individuals were apprehended on Friday, February 23, 2024, for trafficking four pieces of elephant tusks weighing a total of 27 kilograms.
According to a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the seized tusks are estimated to have a street value of Ksh2.7 million.
The arrest occurred in Kisiriri, Narok North, following a joint operation conducted by detectives from the DCI’s Serious Crime Unit and local law enforcement. The suspects were identified as Joseph Mutuku (44), Julius Mwanduka Kiema (72), and Alfred Nzioka Mutie (44).
Following their apprehension, the trio has been detained pending arraignment in court. The DCI stated, “The three have been locked up in cells pending arraignment for relevant offences under the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013 (WCMA).”
