An employee of the African Airlines Association, Joshua Kipruto Ngetich, found himself in the spotlight on Monday, after he was accused of embezzling and looting from his employer.
Ngetich was presented before the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s court in Nairobi to answer to the charges of stealing a staggering sum of Sh 6.9 million.
The prosecution alleges that Ngetich, employed as an accountant at the African Airlines Association office in South C, conspired to commit theft on various occasions spanning from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. Specifically, he is accused of orchestrating the misappropriation of Sh 6,860,581 from the association’s coffers.
During the hearing, Ngetich vehemently denied the charges against him. Through his legal representation, he pleaded with Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi to grant him reasonable bond and bail terms, citing his status as the sole provider for his young family.
It was revealed to the court that Ngetich has a stable residence and strong familial ties, with his family members present in court to show support. His legal team emphasized his commitment to see the case through to its conclusion, asserting that he posed no flight risk.
However, the prosecution urged the court to dismiss the defense’s arguments. The case was adjourned to February 21, allowing for a pre-bail report to be prepared by the probation officer before any decision regarding Ngetich’s release on bail or bond is made.
