Former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament (MP), Alfred Keter, has criticized President William Ruto, accusing him of inconsistency and a refusal to accept advice.
In an interview with Milele FM, Keter, a vocal opponent of the president, asserted that Ruto surrounds himself with individuals who only echo agreement.
Keter went on to express his belief that the president perceives himself as an omniscient figure, dismissing input on various policy matters. According to Keter, Ruto’s reluctance to consider advice extends across economic, health, security, and infrastructure sectors.
“He cannot take advice from anybody, and the day he will change maybe and from the look of things, I don’t see him changing. You cannot advise him; he is an expert in economics, health issues, security matters, loans, infrastructure, transport, every sector,” remarked Keter.
In addition to his critique of Ruto’s leadership style, Keter questioned the viability of the president’s affordable housing project, branding it a deceptive initiative that should not be pursued. He argued against taxing individuals for a project that may not benefit them, labeling the housing endeavor as a scam.
“The housing issue is a scam; you cannot tax someone, and then someone else benefits from it. These houses are being built on public land, and it has never been de-gazetted from public land to private because individuals who are buying these lands are buying on their capacities as private,” he stated.
Keter further raised concerns about the government’s focus on demolishing houses while claiming to be committed to building affordable housing for Kenyans. He questioned the president’s reluctance to abandon the project and suggested exploring alternative approaches.
“Why are you demolishing people’s houses if you want to build us houses? Is there a better way? Why don’t you look for land somewhere? What is affordable about these affordable houses? Because they are more expensive than private ones, and you are using my money and land, and it’s still expensive,” added the outspoken politician.
