Auctioneers have obtained a court order to auction the property of Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, in order to settle a debt of Ksh. 500,000 plus accrued interest owed to businessman Robert Lutta.
This action comes after the MP failed to fulfill the court’s directive to repay the debt.
In a ruling on November 27, 2023, Kakamega Magistrate Gladys Kiama ordered Salasya to settle the debt of Ksh. 500,000 along with accrued interest and the cost of the case.
Armok Auctioneers has been tasked with auctioning the MP’s property on behalf of the plaintiff, Robert Lutta.
Despite being ordered by the court to settle the debt within a month, the MP has not made any payments.
Through his lawyer Edwin Wafula, the plaintiff filed a case on October 23, 2023, alleging that he had lent the MP money through KCB bank, which Salasya had failed to repay. Wafula presented documents from Kenya Commercial Bank, Mumias branch as evidence to support his claim that the money was wired to Salasya’s bank account.
However, Salasya countered the claim, stating that he had actually lent Lutta Ksh. 1 million through his political advisor, Mr. Bernard Kemba.
Magistrate Kiama however dismissed Salasya’s argument due to lack of evidence.
Following the ruling, it’s reported that the MP confronted and threatened Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom. The incident occurred immediately after the magistrate issued an order for the MP to pay up the Ksh. 500,000.
Later, the MP expressed his frustrations on social media, implying that the Magistrate made the ruling because he had rejected her sexual advances. However, the MP deleted the post afterward. Magistrate Kiama reported the incident to the Kakamega police station.
