A police operation in Migori along the Kenya-Tanzania border netted a significant haul of narcotics further boosting the war in drugs in Kenya.
The police operation, which was led by Isebania police OCS Meshack Mulwa, a total of 160 kilograms of marijuana, valued at approximately Ksh.4.8 million, was seized from smugglers who were attempting to transport the contraband.
The confiscated marijuana, concealed in four sacks, was discovered near Mali Ngumu area during the operation. Upon realizing that they were being pursued by the police, the transporter, who was riding a motorcycle, managed to evade capture, prompting a pursuit that is still ongoing.
Confirming the successful interception, Migori County Police Commander Francis Nguli emphasized the steadfast commitment of law enforcement in combating drug trafficking within the region.
He further stated that efforts to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspect are currently underway, underscoring the determination of the police to uphold the law and protect the community from the harms of illicit substances.
Additionally, during the operation, authorities seized ten sacks of jaggery, valued at Ksh.140,000, which were also being smuggled into Kenya. One individual has been apprehended in connection to the incident and is slated to appear in court on Monday to face charges related to drug trafficking.
