Crystal Palace has bid farewell to Roy Hodgson and embraced Oliver Glasner as his successor.
The 76-year-old veteran coach, Hodgson, made the decision to step down due to health concerns arising from an incident during a recent training session.
In his place, Glasner, aged 49, has been appointed with a contract extending until the culmination of the 2025-26 season, as confirmed by Eagles’ chairman Steve Parish.
Parish expressed his enthusiasm for Glasner’s appointment, stating, “I’m delighted to welcome Oliver to the club. He has an outstanding record and we believe he is the right manager to take the club forward at this pivotal stage.”
“Wherever Oliver has gone so far in his managerial journey, success has been quick to follow,” Parish added, highlighting Glasner’s promising track record and attacking style.
Glasner, who previously managed Eintracht Frankfurt, expressed his excitement about joining Crystal Palace, stating, “I am very happy to join Crystal Palace.”
He continued, “I am looking forward to working with the talented squad, meeting the club’s supporters and experiencing the Selhurst Park atmosphere I have heard so much about.”
Meanwhile, Hodgson, reflecting on his time at the club, stated, “This club is very special and means so much to me and has played a big part in my footballing life.”
He added, “However, I understand, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead.”
As Hodgson steps aside, Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy will temporarily take charge when Palace faces Everton at Goodison Park.
