Kenyan media personality Ciru Muriuki has opened up about her Valentine’s Day plans during a memorial ceremony for her late fiancé, Charles Ouda, held at the Kenya National Theatre Courtyard.
Expressing the profound impact of the loss, Ciru revealed that this year’s Valentine’s Day was drastically different from what she had envisioned, especially considering her engagement.
She shared that they had planned a simple celebration, likely spending the day at either his house or hers, enjoying one of his signature elite sandwiches, and sipping on a strong cocktail he would prepare for her.
Instead, she found herself honoring Charles at the memorial service, struggling to accept the reality of his absence. Ciru expressed the disbelief, saying, “It still doesn’t feel real.”
Recalling their journey, Ciru admitted being smitten by Charles the first time she saw him on stage several years ago. Despite the initial admiration, she never imagined they would eventually date, let alone get engaged.
“The first time I ever saw Charlie on stage was several years ago while he was still at St Mary’s. And I thought that he was so fine. If anyone would have told me that 20 years later this luminous man would have asked to marry me, I would have laughed you off the room. This love story of ours took me by surprise,” Ciru narrated.
Their connection, when it finally happened, started as a friendship that later developed into a romantic relationship. Ciru highlighted the undeniable chemistry between them, stating, “After a while, it was clear that there was something between us that was completely undeniable.”
In September of the previous year, Charles Ouda surprised Ciru by proposing, making it a beautiful moment in her life. She expressed deep gratitude for the love they shared and for Charles, describing him as a perfect example of a real gentleman and the kindest man she had ever known.
Ciru concluded her emotional tribute, saying, “Charlie, I will miss you until I join you,” emphasizing the lasting impact of their time together before Charles’s untimely demise.
