Actress Joyce Maina has termed her ex boyfriend, journalist Tony Kwalanda ‘rubbish’ adding that he regrets letting him in his life.

A week ago, media personality Tony Kwalanda revealed the reasons behind his breakup with actress Joyce Maina, shedding light on the cultural differences that led to their split.

In an interview with Radio 47, Kwalanda shared that although he and Joyce had been deeply in love and had plans to live together, their relationship faced challenges due to their different cultural backgrounds.

Kwalanda, who hails from the Luhya tribe, explained that one major disagreement arose over the naming of future children.

According to Kabras tradition, the father typically names the children. However, Joyce, being Kikuyu, expressed her desire to have a say in naming their children, which led to tension between them.

“Joyce Maina, msichana roho yangu ilimpenda sana, unajua tulikutana in a very funny way, lakini ilifika wakati roho ikaniambia mpende tu so nikaamu nikafungua roho so tukadate hadi ilifika kiwango nakumbuka tulienda kutafta nyumba amabapo tutaishi kama mtu na mke wake, wazazi wake pia tulikua tumekutana walikua wanajua tuko wawili.

“Lakini kuna vitu, maybe I was childish or not lakini huyo ni mimi, kuna vitu kadhaa ambavyo sisi kama mila zetu za kinyumbani zinatilia mkazo sana, lakini hao kina Joyce maybe hawakua wanatilia mkazo. Kuna siku nlkua nimeketi kwa gari tulikua basement parking tukaulizana maswali. Joyce akasema mtoto wangu wa kwanza mimi nataka nimwite hivi, wa pili, wa tatu…nikamskiza tu, nikamwambie unajua sisi kwa ki mila yetu wakabras kule Malaba, sisi wanaume ndio tunaname watoto, Joyce akasema mimi ndio carrier, yaani unanidunga mimba alafu useme wewe ndio utamname, ntamwita jina langu upende usipende, nilimuelewa kwa sababu ya kule ametoka, nikajua hapa tutakua na shida. It was one of the main reasons, nliona kama jina pekee yake italeta shida there could be another reason,” the journalist stated.

Joyce Maina responds to Tony Kwalanda

The actress took to social media to respond to her ex’s revelation and said she regrets letting rubbish into her life.

“I officially feel like I am at the face of my life where I feel like I would 100 per cent judge myself. If my past self was someone else, I would be judging her because she did some very stupid things. She let a lot of rubbish into her life, and I just look back, and I am honestly at that face where I can actually look back and think who is that? Like I feel so different. I don’t know if it is just me or going through an awakening or something, but I just feel like a completely different person, and I can actually look back and be like what was this b*tch thinking?”
