Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has offered reassurance that the Azimio coalition will not face a leadership vacuum if Raila Odinga secures the African Union (AU) Commission Chairmanship.
While expressing his presidential ambitions for 2027, Kalonzo assured Raila’s supporters in Homa Bay that he stands ready to step into any void left by Raila in politics.
“If you are missing Baba, there is Uncle Stevo,” said Kalonzo at the Homa Bay investment summit.
Raila’s pursuit of the AU Commission post has raised concerns among his backers, particularly within his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Despite the succession discussions within ODM, Kalonzo emphasized his readiness to guide the opposition, stating, “I hope I am convincing you that there is absolutely no need for fear.”
As Raila considers an exit from Kenya’s political scene, potential successors within ODM, such as former Governors Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, are positioning themselves.
Kalonzo urged Raila to prioritize campaigning for the AU Commission post, acknowledging the need to halt anti-government campaigns and garner support, including that of President Ruto, who has already endorsed Raila’s candidacy for the position.
