A middle-aged man, Douglas Wafula, appeared before a Kabarnet court charged with threatening to kill his former girlfriend, Anne Jepkemoi.
The accusation stems from an incident on January 15 at around 10 pm in the Kapsoo area of Baringo Central, Baringo County.
Wafula is alleged to have willfully and unlawfully uttered threats to Jepkemoi, stating, “I will kill you any day, any place on an unknown date.” He faces charges under section 223(1) of the penal code related to threatening to kill.
During the court proceedings before Senior Resident Magistrate Edwin Mulochi, Wafula denied the charges. The court heard that the accused became angered upon discovering that Jepkemoi had eloped with another man, reportedly due to his inability to afford her upkeep.
Prosecution counsel Beatrice Bartilol objected to Wafula’s bond plea, expressing concerns about the potential harm to Jepkemoi if the accused were released. Bartilol argued, “Your honour, the counsel objects bond since that is how things start then a murder follows.”
In response, Mulochi ordered the case to be mentioned on February 14, with the hearing scheduled for February 15. Four witnesses are expected to testify against the accused in the case.
