Detectives in Nairobi have arrested four police officers suspected of involvement in human trafficking following the discovery of 37 Ethiopian nationals in a house in the Mwihoko area of Kayole.
The operation, led by the DCI’s Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) with assistance from Githurai police officers, uncovered the individuals during a multi-agency raid on Tuesday.
Reports indicate that the Ethiopians were found sleeping on the floor inside one of the houses at the time of the raid.
According to a police report obtained by Capital News, two of the detained officers were armed with firearms, while the others arrived at the scene later with additional individuals in custody.
Despite claims by the officers that they were conducting an ambush, further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in the trafficking ring.
During the operation, two officers sustained ankle injuries while attempting to flee by jumping from the perimeter wall.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate the host of the individuals and the owner of the house where they were discovered. Additionally, all vehicles associated with the incident have been impounded at the Mwihoko police station.
