Certain neighborhoods in Nairobi are bracing for water scarcity between Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company issued a notice on Monday, announcing a shutdown of the water pipeline from Gigiri Reservoir to Karura Reservoir-Outer Ring Road.
This shutdown is scheduled from 6 am on Wednesday, February 14, until 6 am on Thursday, February 15.
The purpose of this shutdown is to facilitate the relocation of the water pipeline, which is currently in conflict with the construction site of the United Nations Offices at Gigiri. As a result, water supply will be interrupted to several areas during this period.
Affected neighborhoods include the UN Complex, Ridgeways, Muthaiga North, Balozi, Garden Estate, Windsor, Mathare North, Garden City, GSU headquarters, East Africa Breweries (EABL), Ngumba, and Babadogo estates. Additionally, areas along Outering Road, Huruma, Umoja 1, Dandora area 1, Donholm, Tassia, Fedha, Nyayo Embakasi, Kware areas, and parts of Pipeline Estate will also experience water shortages.
Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company urges residents in these affected areas to use their stored water sparingly during the shutdown period. While efforts will be made to restore water supply promptly after the completion of the shutdown, residents are advised to prepare for potential shortages during this time.
